In the 1990s we crossed S. oreophila with S. rubra jonesii, two very rare, yet vigorous species. What resulted was the fastest growing Sarracenia we've yet had. From that seed batch, we selected a particular plant for its even distribution of oreophila and rubra jonesii traits, which we called Mountain Splendor.

The pitcher mouths are broad and spouted, and the hood is slightly undulated with bronze hues. The tall traps are heavily veined. The plant grows two distinct sets of pitchers, one in early season, and another in late season when the weather cools down. However, the prize feature of Mountain Splendor is the bright peach-colored flowers that bloom in mid spring. It is one of the most prolific bloomers in our collection.

Type of Plant: Outdoor perennial for container growing.

2nd Season Divisions
After dividing our mother plants in spring, we grow the divisions for a year before releasing them. You get a more vigorous plant with a healthier root system when compared to a recent division.

All outdoor perennials experience seasonal changes at our nursery in Oregon.
January-March: Plant is dormant with no pitchers.
April: Spring growth will appear by the end of the month.
May: Fully developed pitchers will start to appear.
June: Full display of pitchers. This plant will look its best!
July-August: Plant will slow down when it’s hot. Some minor spotting.
September-October: Dormancy begins. Fewer pitchers. No new growth until spring.
November-December: Plant is dormant. Browned pitchers are cut off.

Wonderful 1st time experience, will purchase more!

Posted by Alyssa Pratt on November 5, 2017

Upon receiving the package, I was immediately impressed with how the plant was packed. And thank you for making it easy to succeed in providing care for this plant. This was the first time I have made a purchase of a carnivorous plant and by following the detailed instructions of the care guide that was provided, I have been able to keep it alive without much effort. I can't wait to see more pitchers form! Thank you. I will be ordering again.

    New Pets

Posted by Kathryn Kelly on August 9, 2017

The two Sarracenia x Mountain Splendor that I ordered in July arrived in excellent condition. I am impressed with the care taken in packaging for mailing. They are feeding well; there are some brown spots along the sides of the pitchers that indicate this. I named them, 'Audrey3' and 'Garth'. I am looking forward to ordering some companions, additional carnivores, for my 'babies' from you in the future.

No flower this year but the plant has settled in nicely and buzzes angrily whenever I'm watering it.
