When we first acquired this plant in the 1990s, it was labeled as S. rubra wherryi with orange flowers. However, we later confirmed that it was likely a natural hybrid of sorts rather than a variant of rubra wherryi that naturally has red flowers. Pitchers are similar to the species - a thin layer of fuzz covering the short, narrow pitchers.

Despite its unassuming pitchers, this hybrid has one of the sublime Sarracennia flowers we have seen. When the buds first open in spring, they are pastel pink. As they sit in sunlight, they darken slightly to orange-yellow. But this feature is short-lived as the flower fades when the summer heat hits. In late summer, look for a second flush of pitchers

2nd Season Divisions
After dividing our mother plants in spring, we grow the divisions for a year before releasing them. You get a more vigorous plant with a healthier root system when compared to a recent division.

All outdoor perennials experience seasonal changes at our nursery in Oregon.
January-March: Plant is dormant with no pitchers.
April: Spring growth will appear by the end of the month.
May: Fully developed pitchers will gradually appear.
June-August: Full display of pitchers.
September: Plant produces its best pitchers of the season.
October: Dormancy begins. Fewer pitchers. No new growth until spring.
November-December: Plant is dormant. Browned pitchers are cut off.
