The king sundew, Drosera regia, has a very uncanny ability to wrap its leaves around captured insects. In some instances, a leaf will wrap around an insect so perfectly it looks like it wrapped itself into a knot! Some say that the king sundew gets its name from its spear-like leaves that form a crown of sorts. Others say that its name comes its size.

This plant can be a bit of an enigma for some growers. We've found that it's not very tolerant of constant high temperatures. It definitely likes cool nights, like in its native habit in the coastal mountains of South Africa. It grows best when night temperatures drop below 70°F.

    Absolutely beautiful plant!

My drosera regia arrived well packed and looking very happy despite being shipped making it lose its dew. The dew was back in just a couple of days and new leaves are shooting up all the time. I'm having a blast watching it grow.

Plants arrived fast and in perfect condition. I am very satisfied with my order, and now the sundew has grown two new leaves, although they are slightly smaller than the rest. I would definitely buy from this website again.

I was pleasantly surprised that the D. Regia seemed to be acclimated to the dry humidity of the Boise, ID area, already. Great plant, great initial service, and great follow up to questions, that I had after the sale. I would definitely buy plants from Sarracenia Northwest again!

    Great Condition!

The plant arrived in superb condition! There was still dew on the leaves and the plant didn't look stressed at all. The soil had been taped so it wouldn't fall out and the size of the plant was as advertised.

It literally did not skip a beat. It continued growing when I received it. Will re-pot soon to a much bigger container.

These are small but healthy plants. Very vigorous with good, deep root systems. I prefer growing them in long fiber spagham with leached perlite and they are doing very well for me. They like diluted maxsea in good pure water. They have also had quite a few fungus gnats meet untimely deaths at the hands of their sticky leaves.
