This eye-catching plant gets up to 3 inches tall and 3 inches in diameter. Its uniform shape gives it the appearance of a miniature tree. The only difference, of course, is that this tree sparkles in sunlight! In the wild, this sundew is found in parts of boggy areas that are often flooded with an inch or two of water.  In cultivation, keep the water level fairly high, about 3/4 of the way up the pot. In winter, the leaves will die back, and the plant will form a resting bud sitting at soil level. Growth will resume in mid-spring.

Type of Plant: Outdoor perennial for container growing.
Leaves: 3-4 inches at maturity.
Sunlight: Partial to full sun during the growing season.
Water: Low-mineral water (50 ppm or less).
Soil: Equal parts peat moss and perlite only.
Winter: Dormant. Minimal protection in USDA zones 7-9. Mulch in colder regions.

    Drosera intermedia

I contacted Jeff to ask about the care of D. intermedia that I had ordered earlier in the spring since it was not doing well. I did not expect to receive a replacement plant, just information on how to improve my care of this type of plant for next time. In addition to reviewing my growing conditions and sharing growing tips, Jeff offered to replace the plant. Needless to say, I was very happy to receive a very healthy replacement that continues to thrive in my bog garden. Thanks Sarracenia Northwest! Your customer service is fantastic!

I understand that Drosera intermedia is a smaller sundew but this one I received was incredibly small. It is about the size of a quarter. The plant itself is healthy, but for the price I don't know I would purchase it again. ***RESPONSE BY SARRACENIA NORTHWEST: I understand your concern about the size of the plant. However, we grow all cold hardy plants outdoors at our nursery in Oregon, which means they are coming out of winter dormancy. It's still early in the growing season, and these plants will grow larger throughout the season.

    Small

Posted by Craig Ellis on May 2, 2017

Like I could buy seeds and have them germanate for just a few dollars and have at least 10. ***RESPONSE BY SARRACENIA NORTHWEST: Sorry the plant isn't as large as you'd like. To be fair, it's still very early in the growing season, and we grow this plant outdoors at our nursery in Oregon. They emerge from dormancy later than they would in warmer regions of the country. This sundew will get larger by early to mid summer. These plants are also at least a year old.
