Named for its natural habitat, the cape region of South Africa, Cape sundews grow vigorously and produces large leaves at maturity. It's considered a mountainous plant, so it likes a very sunny window with mild temperatures. The broad leaf form has wider leaves than the more common narrow leaf form. It also grows slower than other forms of Cape sundews and is more temperamental to hot conditions. However, it matures into a larger plant overall.

Type of Plant: Tropical plant for windowsill growing.
Size: 6 inches across when mature.
Sunlight: Partial sun. Avoid hot sunlight.
Water: Low-mineral water (50 ppm or less).
Soil: Equal parts peat moss and perlite only.
Temperatures: Tolerant of cool temperatures but always protect from frost.

    Drosera Capensis - Showstopper!

Posted by Michael Muller on August 15, 2016

See the pictures, see the plant that they sent - they are the same - well, the plant was even better! It was so beautiful that I put it next to me like a pet while i surfed the internet. It makes me happy just to gaze upon it. It is blooming now, 1 month later. It was really large too - about 6 inches across - like a crystal sparkling fountain of dewy leaves.

the plant came in a box completely packed with Styrofoam peanuts. not any room for banging around, however when i got it it had very little dew on its leaves. it came in the recommended soil mix and had no injures. definitely my go to CP place.

My Drosera capensis arrived in great condition. It looked very healthy and well hydrated. I am enjoying my new little plant. Sarracenia Northwest company kept me informed on the shipping status and communicated with me throughout the process. Highly recommend.
