Brocchinia reducta is a rare carnivorous bromeliad native to Venezuela. The plant forms a tight pitcher-like structure called a "tank" that collects rainwater. The leaves are coated with a silver-gray powder that makes the leaf surface very slippery. As insects walk across the leaves, they fall into the reservoir of water below and drown. The plant then produces enzymes to absorb nutrients from the dead insect. Sunlight is the most important part of this plant's care. When grown in full sun, the plant will produce tall, upright leaves with a yellow hue. In lower light conditions, the leaves are green and floppy. Grow this plant outdoors during summer to see its full potential. In fall, before frost occurs, grow the plant indoors in the brightest window possible.

A very pleasant transaction all the way around. The plant, while it seemed a little worse for the wear, which is understandable, came very well packaged, safe and secure in its container. The care that goes into growing and shipping was obvious. Very well done.

Worried bear the beginning but all has settled.

Posted by Garrett Mccubbin on February 12, 2019

The carnivorous plant arrived in good health and pre potted. I was concerned in the beginning because some of the outer, loose leaves began to brown and die off but after they did and they were removed the plant sprung into better health and began showing signs of growth.
